9:40 am - 10:20 am Interactive Presentation: Contingent Staffing Risk Management Calisthenics – Scenarios and Situations

Tim Tinsman - Associate Director Global Procurement (HR & Professional Services), Charles River
Lets face it, as contingent staffing professionals we’re always seen as the go-to person for the organization when it comes to managing risks related to managing contractors. Because we have all the answers, right? Of course it can be challenging to proactively prepare for every scenario…until now! Given Tim’s legal background, he will help you answer the following types of questions that have probably clogged up your inbox over the past couple of days. This interactive session will talk you through how to address these and many more burning questions that are likely clogging up your inbox during the conference.

• Paying a bonus to temp worker, how would you respond?
• Paying a current employee as an independent contractor for other work such as office cleaning?
• Ensure every temp worker is receiving the same pay rate. Is it possible to do this without some risk?
• A temp worker will be traveling on behalf of your company. Should he/she be paid for travel time?

Panel:
Ethics of Contingent Labor – Are We Creating A Permanent Underclass?
Recent articles, particularly focused on Silicon Valley, have highlighted the rise of the contractor ‘underclass’ that does the grunt work for some of the largest Silicon Valley firms with few of the rewards typically offered by such firms. As stewards of contingent labor, is this a perception that needs to be addressed? And if so how? This thought-provoking panel will explore a variety of viewpoints and perspectives.

• Does CS create wealth disparity and is this something we should care about?
• Who should ‘stand up’ for Contingent Worker rights
• What steps can be taken to improve the perception of CS programs

11:00 am - 11:20 am Morning Networking Break

As with any initiative, it can be easy to get carried away when establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) for a contingent workforce management program. Many companies establish and attempt to track so many KPIs that creating scorecards can be a full time job in itself! With the general framework of ‘measuring what matters’ in mind, several leading practitioners will share their stories, perspectives, and experiences.

• How to evaluate organizational/business goals in context with metrics
• Determining scope and frequency
• Periodic reassessment – is what we’re doing making sense?
